HSI Receives FAA Diamond Award

  TRUMBULL, Connecticut - Helicopter Support Inc., Services Division, received a Diamond Award from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in recognition of a new employee training program. HSI is a subsidiary of Sikorsky Aircraft, based in Stratford, Conn. Sikorsky is a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The Diamond Award Certificate of Excellence is the Federal Aviation Administration's highest training award. The award recognizes employers with 100 percent employee participation in an established training program. In addition, the award program offers five levels of recognition for employees.

"Employee engagement in the program was deemed an important component, and managers wanted to offer employees an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to support our customers in an exemplary fashion," said James M. Reilly, General Manager, HSI Services Division.

"Improving the quality in our workmanship while simultaneously introducing the S-92TM helicopter were key objectives. Developing and retaining the best-trained people in the business is a lofty objective, and clearly an objective we want our team to work towards every day," Reilly said.

The initiative, implemented in 2006, included a wide spectrum of activities ranging from core training activities associated with Employee Health & Safety, through core skills training such as blueprint and torque training, to very specific product training.

HSI Services Division completed a total of 2,421 training hours. In addition to numerous core training classes, more than 1,800 hours of product specific training was conducted; approximately 100 hours of S-70T helicopter instruction, approximately 300 hours of S-76® helicopter training, and more than 1,200 hours of S-92 training were completed in 2006.
