Sikorsky S-76 Enjoys Rekindled Asian Interest

February 23, 2004

SINGAPORE, Singapore - Asian helicopter operators are showing a renewed interest in the Sikorsky S-76 as their helicopter solution to meet the missions of the future in the intermediate weight class.

The aircraft is meeting with continued success in the Republic of Korea and Japan. In 2003, two new S-76C+ aircraft were delivered to corporate customers in both Asian nations. Two more executive helicopters will be delivered in Korea this year.

In Japan, Sikorsky anticipates fulfilling future Coast Guard rescue requirements with more S-76 Search and Rescue (SAR) aircraft.

Sikorsky is also seeking more S-76 sales to China's Ministry of Communications, which already operates two S-76C+ SAR helicopters. Sikorsky sees opportunities in the Indian market, particularly with the entry of the S-76C+ under charter for offshore oil support. In addition to oil sales, the S-76 is being offered for some airline type operations and VIP missions as well.

In Thailand Sikorsky is working with Si-Chang Flying Service, an operator that is competing for an offshore oil contract that could potentially involve three S-76 aircraft.

Vietnamese operators are beginning move away from their old equipment. Sikorsky is evaluating business opportunities there with an eye on oilfield support operations.

In Australia, CHC has been named the preferred tenderer for replacement of five S-76 helicopters currently serving SAR missions for the Royal Australian Air Force under a lease program. Sikorsky is waiting for the green light for the new equipment, which would be purchased by CHC and leased for 10 years.

The S-76C+ is a proven performer in offshore oil, corporate, SAR, and EMS activities across the globe. Recent milestones for the S-76 include the S-76C+ receiving The Robb Report"s 2003 award for "Best Luxury Helicopter," and an S-76A currently in airline service surpassing the 25,000-hour mark.

An uprated version of the proven S-76 helicopter, the S-76C+ combines the rugged S-76B airframe with the more capable, FADEC-controlled Turbomeca Arriel 2S1 engine. It offers improved single engine and hot-high performance while retaining the efficient, long-range cruise of the earlier models.

Operating in 44 countries by 192 operators, more than 530 Sikorsky S-76 helicopters have accumulated over three million flight hours with an extraordinary safety record, while providing the best combination of operating costs and performance in their weight class.
